Over the past decade, Geneva Global has been helping donors cut through the complexities of international giving by providing them with high-impact granting opportunities and time-conscious consulting services.

Geneva Global was founded by an international investment group called Legatum (formerly known as Sovereign Global) who were seeking professional philanthropic advice that met the investment banking standards they were used to. The lack of such services led them to found Geneva Global in 1999. They equipped the new international philanthropic advisory firm to offer individuals, companies and foundations world-class research and advice. The rest, as they say, is history.

By bringing an investment mind-set to international giving, we helped build a new market in which philanthropic investors expect quantifiable results from their grants.  By 2005, we were working with 45 clients who had invested more than $10 million dollars in grass-roots implementing organizations in developing nations. Our research and advisory services enabled our clients to clearly understand the difference their giving made – measurable improvements in the lives of more than 2 million people in the world’s poorest countries.

Since our inception, we have helped dozens of individuals, foundations, corporations and government agencies give more than $81 million dollars to some 1,650 life-changing projects, changing the lives of 6 million people in 109 developing countries.

By identifying the best community-based organizations, we assist donors in taking on some of the most challenging problems in developing nations. We’ve built an extensive network of community and organizational leaders and field consultants around the world, all with community development expertise. Through this network, we are able to identify the very best local solutions to issues faced by impoverished communities, and they have formed the base for the growth of our consultancy services.
