Education system enhancements; program implementation and impact; and travel and exploring new cultures and nature

With an extensive background in education, Nebiyu loves seeing the success of children learning in the classroom and ensuring educational programs are of the highest quality. Nebiyu serves as Director of the Education Cannot Wait Multi Year Resilience Program (ECW-MYRP) at Geneva Global Ethiopia. In this role, he oversees all program implementation for ECW-MYRP providing guidance and support to the team and ensuring effective and efficient  coordination and collaboration. Nebiyu works across the ECW-MYRP project overseeing work plans and annual reports, working with collaborating partners and government officials, and supporting program implementation.

Nebiyu comes to Geneva Global from the Oromia Regional Education Bureau, a key collaborating partner of Geneva Global. As one of the senior staff members, Nebiyu worked closely with the federal Ministry of Education, other ministries, non-government organizations, and international organizations. In the Regional Education Bureau, Nebiyu oversaw the regional education strategic and operational plans and the community resource mobilization efforts. He also served as the Environmental and Social Safeguard Expert for the bureau. In this role, he evaluated schools and teachers to ensure the World Bank’s protection guidelines, particularly the child rights, were upheld during the school quality inspections.

Nebiyu’s favorite part of working at Geneva Global is getting to be a Speed School trainer. He is excited to see the excellent work of Speed School facilitators in the classroom and the engagement of mothers and caregivers in the Self-Help Groups who are dedicated to their child’s education. Nebiyu also loves working with children with disabilities and how Geneva Globa’s inclusive approach helps these children perform at the same level as other classmates and are provided the necessary assistive devices and support.

What brings you joy?

I find joy in ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, benefits from the Speed School program. Witnessing their livelihoods improve and achieving their dreams brings me immense happiness.

How many countries have you visited?

I have visited five countries: Kenya, India, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, and Uganda.

Why did you decide to work at Geneva Global?

Given Geneva Global’s human-centered approach to education and commitment to international performance philanthropy, I knew this organization would allow me to showcase the knowledge and expertise I have gained throughout my career. Additionally, I decided to work at Geneva Global because it has given me the chance to share my skills and insights across diverse countries and global program interventions.

What three words would you use to describe your colleagues?
