Geneva Global January 2023 Newsletter

In November 2022, Geneva Global Uganda (GGU) concluded its Speed School year, enrolling 6,900 out-of-school children across 10 districts and successfully transitioning over 90 percent of its graduating classes to government schools. Since 2016, GGU has integrated more than 32,000 children into the traditional education system and plans to expand to four new districts in eastern Uganda in 2023, introducing a Level 2 program for older students.

As of September 2022, Geneva Global Ethiopia (GGE) has enrolled 27,600 out-of-school children in Speed Schools, 80 percent of which were funded by the government. GGE is also training 780 conventional schoolteachers in Speed School methodologies, which will impact over 39,000 government school children. A new UNICEF-funded project will provide accelerated learning for 4,708 children in Somali region, emphasizing life skills and mental health support. GGE has collaborated with regional education bureaus to condense curricula in local languages, enhancing access and effectiveness for marginalized students. Recent initiatives include insights from the PROSPECTS project that transitioned over 90 percent of 3,210 students to government schools, and participation in a study on effective educational responses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
