Abebaw is the Country Director of Geneva Global Ethiopia, where he leads a growing team focused on delivering innovative education programs and strengthening national systems. With nearly two decades at Geneva Global, Abebaw brings a rare continuity and deep institutional knowledge, having advanced from Logistics Assistant in 2008 to Program Manager, Deputy Country Director, and now Country Director.

Over the years, Abebaw has contributed to nearly every facet of Geneva Global Ethiopia’s work, including finance, programming, policy design, and government partnerships. He has played a central role in designing and adapting the Speed School program across Ethiopia and Uganda, delivering training for facilitators, teachers, and education officials. His leadership was also pivotal in strengthening Self-Help Groups, which economically and socially empower mothers of Speed School students.

Abebaw is known for his commitment to collaborative leadership and long-term impact. Under his direction, GGE is positioning itself as a technical powerhouse and advisor in the region, supporting national policy implementation and local innovation. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of the People while working full time at GGE, reflecting his drive and the organization’s investment in staff development.

What’s your favorite travel site or project to visit and why?

I like to visit well-organized and unorganized Speed school sites as the former helps me see our success and the latter helps me think to try things differently and learn.

What three words would you use to describe your colleagues?

Innovative, inspired, professional

Who or what has inspired you to do the work that you do?

My colleagues at GG Ethiopia and HQ who I have worked with for many years.
