Ask me about:

Storytelling, the Enneagram, and children’s literature

Brent approaches collaboration with attentiveness and curiosity, excited to listen, knowledge-share, and grow. His creative and analytic mind and strong communication skills help Brent expertly navigate language that is both engaging and accessible. Driven by his commitment to create belonging, he also co-leads culture-building efforts within Geneva Global and across Global Impact Ventures to build a welcoming workplace for all. Placing a high value on empathy and relationship-building, Brent centers kindness in all that he does.

Prior to Geneva Global, Brent worked as an early childhood educator for eleven years, passionately teaching young children how to care for and celebrate all kinds of people. He created and implemented a diversity-based curriculum that introduced young children to human differences in race, family structure, gender identity, body type, and more ability. Brent’s devotion to compassion and belonging remains a top priority in his work at Geneva Global as he collaborates with a driven, compassionate team to build a brighter world through effective philanthropy.

Brent graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with a degree in Theater. In his free time, Brent enjoys reading queer fiction and exploring new places with his husband Joe.

What book, film, or quote has shaped the way you think?

“There is no one way to live, love, raise children, arrange a family, run a school, a community, a nation. The norms were created by somebody, and each of us is somebody. We can make our own normal. We can throw out all the rules and write our own. We can build our lives from the inside out. We can stop asking what the world wants from us and instead ask ourselves what we want for our world. We can stop looking at what’s in front of us long enough to discover what’s inside us. We can remember and unleash the life-changing, relationship-changing, world-changing power of our own imagination. It might take us a lifetime. Luckily, a lifetime is exactly how long we have.” – Glennon Doyle, Untamed

What’s your best travel advice?

Marry someone who plans everything.

What brings you joy?

Bright colors, human empathy, diverse children’s books, puppy snuggles, painting my nails, movies that make me laugh and cry, mimosas at brunch, weekends with no plans.

Who or what has inspired you to do the work you do?

During my time as an early childhood educator, I was so inspired by the 3- and 4-year-olds in my care. When we talked about race, gender identity, and other kinds of human diversity, they entered these conversations with such a beautiful willingness to learn and an eagerness to love. The compassion of young children drives me to build a better world through my work at Geneva Global.
