Ask me about:

Sustainability of education programs, Speed School program implementation, and Speed School student recruitment

With years of experience working directly with students and communities, Robert helps to mobilize teams to address the educational challenges in Uganda. As a Program Officer for Geneva Global Uganda, Robert works closely with the local teachers, headteachers, and collaborating partners to implement and adopt the Speed School program in their schools. Robert trains the Speed School facilitators to be prepared when they go into the classrooms and engage with students. He also manages the data collection and reporting of the Speed School programs and identifies ways to improve Speed School implementation.  Robert loves working within the Speed School programs because of the community engagement embedded throughout the programs. Whether through facilitator trainings or the Self-Help Groups, Robert integrates his past experiences as a teacher and community worker to serve the communities in Uganda’s Kalaki district.

Prior to joining Geneva Global Uganda, Robert was a teacher for over 10 years. Through this time Robert developed a passion for supporting disadvantaged children as he sympathized with many of the challenges these kids faced. Robert also worked closely with local communities in the past as a community worker helping to mobilize self-help groups and plan for these community interventions. Robert saw Geneva Global Uganda as an opportunity to blend his passion for teaching and education with the powerful role of community interventions. The holistic approach of the Speed School programs allows Robert to still work closely with students and teachers while also generating systematic change in the Kalaki district.

What brings you joy?

Facilitators appreciating my guidance and counselling, Speed School learners regularly attended classes, and having fun and sharing experiences with my friends after work.

Why did you decide to work at Geneva Global?

I saw the impact of Geneva Global’s Speed School program in the Kalaki District. The program provides a new opportunity for many children who are out of school due to problems such as poverty, domestic violence, ignorance, and accessibility. I decided to work for Geneva Global to help sustain the Speed School program and contribute to its success serving children in Uganda.

What book, film, or quote has shaped the way you think?

A Man for All Season by Robert Bolt makes me remember to stay true to myself like Sir Thomas More in the book. I also admire the character Squeller in Animal Farm by George Orwell because of how well he communicates. I pull inspiration from his character when I communicate with communities.

What three words would you use to describe your colleagues?

Supportive, Friendly, and Collaborative
