How did your career journey lead you to GG?
Prior to Geneva Global, I spent 11 years as an early childhood educator, teaching 3- and 4-year-olds in Harleysville, PA. I sort of stumbled into teaching (after majoring in Theater in undergrad) and fell heads-over-heels in love with it. Over time, I built a curriculum centered on life’s most important lessons: the exploration and celebration of human differences. It gave me such hope to see the way my young students approached new information and new people with curious minds and open hearts.
When my time as a teacher came to an end, my longtime friend (and now colleague!) Juanita Nyce suggested I consider joining her at Geneva Global. Being brand new to the sector, I felt intimidated and overwhelmed. But I was ultimately drawn to the same things I loved about teaching: a culture that values people and relationships, an opportunity to use accessible communication to simplify complex topics, and a genuine desire to protect and empower marginalized communities.
What does your role at Geneva Global involve?
My primary responsibility is co-leading communications work for a large UHNW donor community. I plan and project manage monthly and quarterly newsletters sharing out upcoming events and philanthropy-related updates. In a different role, I oversee data management related to key sector partners, allowing the client to track relationship history and thoughtfully strategize next steps.
Internally, I serve as a member of the Employee Experience Team, which prioritizes building a culture of welcoming and compassion for employees across the company. I am excited about a new quarterly initiative that I’m spearheading, Story Time with Mr. Brent, where I’ll read a children’s book celebrating human differences to my adult colleagues and facilitate a conversation about the book’s themes. (Children’s books often spark new learning and questions for people of all ages!)
What fulfills you most about your role?
THE PEOPLE. Externally, I love the process of building and cultivating client relationships. One of my strengths is finding a delicate balance between the professional and the personal; I love making others feels seen and comfortable, showing up to work as my whole self and giving others permission to do the same.
Internally, I’m obsessed with my coworkers. They are intelligent, passionate, and driven, and I learn something new from them every day. They approach work and life with incredible thoughtfulness, offering a deep level of support and care unlike anything I have ever experienced in the workplace before.
What are you reading right now?
You’ll usually find me juggling at least one physical book and audiobook. I’m reading Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune (queer fiction is my absolute favorite genre) and listening to The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty (because I love a mystery, witty writing, and nuanced characters).
How has your work-from-home journey been? Any tips or tricks?
I love working from home, but I will say I don’t miss the days of sharing a studio apartment with my husband, who also works from home. I took several meetings inside the closet (and, candidly, I have no interest in spending more time in the closet). Fortunately for my productivity (and my marriage), we can now spread out in our 2-bedroom Philly apartment in the Art Museum area.
